I bought the Hammerli 850 .22 and I absolutely love shooting this gun. I researched different options for days and settled on this one because there's no cocking or pumping required. I feel shooting targets should be enjoyable and not a workout. And being in Louisiana where it's often warm and moist the least amount of effort required to shoot the better. This gun is accurate and is a breeze to shoot. Out of the box the sights are perfect. At 30 yards I'm knocking down the rat on the run - https://www.airgundepot.com/air-venturi-rat-on-the-run-target.html (awesome target BTW) a good bit and rarely miss the rat when not hitting dead center. This may not sound impressive on the surface but at 30 yards that sweet spot is merely a blur of a yellow dot. Another reason for getting this gun was because it comes with open sights and not a scope. When searching I sought out guns that had open sights because I think there's more challenge to it. I've shot one air cartridge in 2 shooting sessions so far which yielded plenty enough shots. I used Pelgun oil on the tip and threads of the cartridge when installing it. I shot 130 pellets the first session and didn't want to waste the Co2 so I left the cartridge in the gun. The intention was to shoot the second session the following weekend but that turned into three weekends. The gun fired perfectly for another 50 shots or so until the air loss was getting noticeable. Even then the accuracy was good and it still had enough oomph to knock down that stinkin' rat. Four other family members also shot this gun (novices) and after a few attempts were decent shots. But most importantly they were smiling the whole time and enjoying themselves without breaking a sweat. And to me that's what this is all about. Airgun Depot was also awesome. The gun shipped extremely fast and arrived before its expected time. UPS didn't show until 8 or so and I was pacing the house anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new toy. I was not let down.
Pros
So far everything. The quality of this gun is outstanding. There's a reason it's been around as long as it has. No pumping or breaking barrels (perfect - if you're kind of lazy and just want to shoot let the Co2 do the work) 8 shot magazine Extremely comfortable Excellent open sights I bought the Benjamin 400 count pellet assortment and they all shot well ![]()
Cons
Being VERY picky I'd have to say loading the pellets into the magazine. You cannot push the pellets in far enough if you've got normal human sized hands. No problem though, I cut a few pieces of a wooden dowel which is perfect to seat the pellets all the way in. Again - this is really really looking for something. It's not a big deal at all. Just know you might need a tool to seat the pellets completely.
